Our Students in the Community

Since 1998, students of the Expressive Arts Institute have contributed a minimum of 600 hours each of educational and therapeutic services to diverse populations throughout San Diego County and across the county and the world. Commuting students from Portland, Oregon to Atlanta, Georgia, to Hungary, Israel and Germany have carried our internship program to their home communities.

At the institute, we are proud of our tradition of service to the community of San Diego. In 2004 we reached a landmark moment: the Expressive Arts Institute received a formal commendation from the mayor and city council in recognition of significant contribution to the cultural and civic life of San Diego, having achieved 15,000 hours of arts based volunteer work.  By the time the current class graduates, that number will exceed 60,000 hours, working with some of the most underserved populations in San Diego County.
