Dance Movement Therapy 101 with Dr. Judith Greer Essex
October 25, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - December 6, 2016 @ 8:00 pm$200
A course 40 years in the making…Judith Essex began her career on the stage as a dancer and actress, touring with Provasio and Merce Cunningham and John Cage, before returning to San Diego where she continued her stage career, and began teaching movement for actors at the the San Diego Repertory Theater conservatory. It was this experience which made her seek out an MA dance therapy from UCLA.
For over 40 years, Judith has worked with almost every imaginable population as an arts and movement based helper, having finished an MA in Marriage Family Therapy and Ph.D. in Expressive Arts Therapy in the meantime. After nearly two decades as director of the Expressive Arts Institute, Dr. Essex returns to her first love of Dance/Movement Therapy, where she still maintains Board Certification (BC-D/MT) informed by the principles of embodiment and phenomenology that lie at the heart of the field of Expressive Arts Therapy.
Restoring expressive movement and dance to our bodies doesn’t just allow for catharsis. Expressive movement is the native language for the existential expression of embodied being.
The course has 4 meetings: Oct. 25th, Nov. 8 & 22nd, Dec. 6th. Advance registration, and attendance of all meetings required.
CEU’s available. Contact Judith for details.
